Ever heard of this new Thandai flavor? - Thandai Recipe for Holi 2021

Holi is a festival of colors and lets us use things from the kitchen to make colors. Organic and biodegradable colors could not get easier. After playing colors, we all need a refreshing drink of thandai. Why not make it rose-flavored as well? Check out the recipe below :) When had in limited quantities thandai is rich in antioxidants and help lessen the summer heat :)


Ingredients to make Thandai:

  1. 1/2 bowl almonds/badam

  2. 1/4 cup raisins/kishmish

  3. 1/4 cup pistachio

  4. 1/4 cup poppy seeds

  5. 1/4 cup watermelon seeds

  6. 400 gm sugar stone/sugar

  7. 1/4 cup black pepper

  8. saffron strands

  9. elaichi/cardamom

  10. ginger powder

Soaking time: 6 hours

Preparation time: 10 mins

Cooking time: 30 mins


Recipe for the Thandai mixture-


  • Mix all ingredients in a bowl except sugar stone and soak the ingredients in about 2 cups of water for 6 hours undisturbed and covered.

  • It's soaked well. Grind the soaked mixture.

  • The water used to remove the mixture from the mixer can be used to make sugar paste.

  • Make a powder out of sugar stone and add 1 glass of water and mix well.

  • Add the water used to rinse the mixer as well.

  • Mix continuously on high flame. Once it starts boiling add the paste of ingredients made before.

  • 5 mins on high flame then medium flame. Now add 1 TSP ginger powder, saffron strands, and some elaichi or cardamom. Add another 1/2 cup of sugar stone (OPTIONAL)

  • Once the syrup mix starts to thicken and get sticky, let it cool down for a while.

  • Now let's make rose thandai and original thandai!

Recipe for the Plain Thandai-

  • Take 2.5 TSP thandai mix in a glass. Add 1/2 cup milk over the mixture or more as and when needed. Add ice and mix well. Decorate with dry fruits and enjoy Plain Thandai.

Recipe for the Rose Thandai-

  • Take 1 TSP thandai mix and a TSP rose syrup in a glass. Add 1.5 cup milk over the mixture or more as and when needed. Add ice and mix well. Decorate with dry fruits and enjoy Rose Thandai.
